Signaling Pathways

Autophagy

This is the process that allows cells to form double-membraned vesicles so they can sequester proteins and organelles and mark them for degradation in the lysosome. Evidence suggests that there may be a role for autophagy in a tumor microenvironment. Specifically, autophagy in the presence of cancer is thought to help cancer cells cope with a hypoxic environment, nutrient shortages, and combating some therapies.
