Inhibitors of apoptosis (IAP) genes are an important group of genes that encode proteins that act on the programmed cell death pathway. Amplification and translocation of these genes suggest that these genes may act as oncogenes under certain conditions. Therefore, targeting these IAP genes and how they are expressed may be a promising cancer therapy approach.
