Microbiome has been shown to play important roles in a variety of biomedical and drug discovery research. An increasing body of evidence suggests that the microbiome exerts significant effects on the occurrence, development, and treatment outcome of cancer, autoimmune diseases, metabolic syndrome, neurological disorders, and other diseases. In clinical settings, microbiome has become a prospective therapeutic target.

Conventional Specific-pathogen-free (SPF) mouse models are often used for efficacy and toxicity studies, while germ-free mouse models are essential for discovering the relationship between host, microbiome, and disease. Besides, germ-free mouse models with fecal microbiota transplantation are an ideal tool to establish causal relationships between the microbiome and host phenotypes.

Topics for this webinar included:

- An introduction to our germ-free mice and role of germ-free mouse models in microbiome research

- Applications of fecal microbiota transplantation in germ-free mice

- Constructions of gnotobiotic mouse models using germ-free mice and their applications

- An overview of our germ-free and microbiome service platform
